Update on Suzy BQE! She is too weak for surgery today, due to the blood loss caused by her injury (anemic) and shock from her traumatizing experience. Our vet estimates Suzy is about 1-year-old. The damage to her tail is too severe to repair, and her tail will be amputated once she is strong enough for the procedure.

Brooklyn Cat Cafe and Brooklyn Bridge Animal Welfare Coalition relies on the generosity of our supporters to do what we do! We are a 501(c)3 charity. Please help support our efforts by donating.

We will update tomorrow. Thank you to everyone who has helped share Suzy's story and Park Slope Veterinary Center!

JESSI BIO:

Jessi has been leading movement classes for a decade and leads students in a joyous frolic along each individual's growing edge of creativity and athleticism. She aims to help students harvest principles of practicing excellence, and carry this to all facets of their lives.
Jessi took a leave from dance to pursue an interest in animal welfare. She holds a B.A. in Animal Studies from SUNY Empire State College, completed internships at Best Friends Animal Society and Animal Farm Foundation, and spent two years serving the ASPCA Adoption Center's behavior team. #Brooklyn - Adopt Eleanor Purrsevelt!
This sweet, shy, big girl gives off her unexpectedly high-pitched quiet mew, then lightly jumps up on the couch to knead with her big paws in anticipation of cuddles and treats. She works her right forepaw with delight, purring like a tiger the entire time.

Until she knows you, Eleanor may hide. You may have to reach to pet her in her place of safety, but she will be there hoping you do, because she’s addicted to love and wants to purr while you pet her, bunting you with her soft sweetness. Eventually, she will come to meet you with her tail high and vibrating, anticipating a cuddle session on the couch. Outside, she was the only cat who let everybody pet her, even the boys who rode their bikes wildly on the sidewalk. She stayed half-hidden in the bushes but was always grateful for the attention.

Now in her foster home, she doesn’t waste a minute of time with her caregiver. Much as she loves food, she will wait to eat until she has no companion she can rub while purring. Eleanor would be a good solo cat, a fine companion, a member of the family. Let her leave pawprints in your heart.

Eleanor is around 3 years old, FIV/FeLV negative, spayed, and up-to-date on all vaccinations. For more information or to meet Ms. Purrsevelt, contact June at jbalish@verizon.net or (718) 434-0577.

#Brooklyn - Missi is a pretty tabby girl who would be happy to rest purring in your lap all day long. She adores people and would be a lovely family cat.

Missi is approximately 14 months old, vaccinated, microchipped and tested negative for FIV/FeLV. She would be happiest as a single cat in a home although she can live with another low-key kitty. She does very well with gentle kids too. As far as Missi is concerned, giving head butts and being petted, brushed and fed delicious food are the sum of bliss. If you would like to meet sweet Missi, please contact brooklynbridgeanimals@yahoo.com or visit Brooklyn Cat Cafe (CatCafeBK.com) at 149 Atlantic Avenue.

My name is La Belle. I am a female cat with soft fur and the cutest nose. I was rescued 1 year ago and joined another rescue male cat. Unfortunately, he does not like me one bit and I need to find a new foster or adoptive home asap!

I love warm laps, sun spots, and chasing my favorite toys.
I am friendly and playful, and love being around humans.

I am up to date on all of my shots and have tested negative for FIV/ FeLV, am spayed, have records of my vet visits and ready to Go!

I would prefer to be a single kitty, but will consider sharing my space with a calm and friendly cat.

Please call Susan at 718-858-7006 or email BrooklynBridgeAnimals@yahoo.com to arrange a play date.

#Brooklyn - This handsome boy was rescued from a backyard in Brownsville and is so happy to be in out of the cold! In his foster home he quickly adjusted to the other cats and a dog. Once he's comfortable he's a people greeter, loves head rubs, is super playful and loves a good scratching post! He also enjoys lounging in a comfy spot.

Tigger is 21 months old, neutered, vaccinated, fiv/felv negative and microchipped. He would do best in a home without young children and with an active cat. Please contact BrooklynBridgeAnimals@yahoo.com for more information, or visit Tigger at Brooklyn Cat Cafe (@catcafebk) at 149 Atlantic Avenue.

Devoted and cross-eyed River adores people and has a dog-like personality. She greets her foster family at the door and loves to hang out with her people. She enjoys playing with her favorite fishing pole toys, and then blissfully stretching out for a long nap on a sunny windowsill.

River does not like other cats at all, and needs to be a single girl. She would love a social home with adults who give her lots of attention and play time.

River is 2 years old, spayed, vaccinated, FIV and FeLV negative, and microchipped. Please email BrooklynBridgeAnimals@yahoo.com to arrange a play date in her West Village foster home.

#Brooklyn - Toby is the chillest purr machine there ever was--a BIG fan of head scratches, cuddles, all things yummy, and playing with very refined, fancy toys like shoelaces. Special skills include rolling around in his scratch lounge and reclining by the window (the finer things).

Rescued from Crown Heights, where he was found fending for himself this winter, Toby is extra appreciative of finally being warm inside again, quickly revealing himself to be a total love bug. Apprx. 4 years old, his head is also perpetually cocked to the side a bit, which ups his cute factor even MORE.

He's truly a dream companion, and is easy going as can be. He's quite adaptable, and would probably do great in a low-key, relaxed environment where he can get lots of head scratches and help you do important chores like "watch TV", while he's also content sometimes exploring and doing his own thing (again, he's the best).

Toby is neutered, vaccinated, and FiV/FeLV negative. If you'd like to meet the little dude, please contact brooklynbridgeanimals@yahoo.com and/or mhnepi@gmail.com.

#Brooklyn - Winnie is a gorgeous marmalade-colored nine-year old wonder cat! She is perfect for someone who wants a low maintenance, affectionate feline companion. She is social, happy and easy-going. Winnie has the energy of cat half her age and is very healthy: spayed, negative for FIV/FeLV, and up to date on vaccines. She enjoys greeting everyone she meets, and will rub up against them asking for pets. She just adores people. She loves to play with a string in the morning and goes crazy with happiness before flopping down for a long nap. brooklynbridgeanimals@yahoo.com ... See MoreSee Less

#Brooklyn - Gina is a happy quirky little tomboy. Once the smallest and shyest of her siblings, she has blossomed into a gorgeous torbie girl with the cutest nose. She is still suspicious of strangers, and requires a family who would be patient until she came out of her shell; probably less than a week if you have a warm lap! Gina loves other cats of all ages and must be in a home with another kitten or active cat or even cat-loving dog.

Gina is 9 months old, spayed, vaccinated, FIV/FeLV negative, and microchipped. Please email BrooklynBridgeAnimals@yahoo.com to arrange a Brooklyn Heights play date, or stop by Brooklyn Cat Cafe (149 Atlantic Avenue) during our open hours and say hello!

#Brooklyn - Ben was found as part of a family of cats in Williamsburg. He is a super gentle and laid back cat. Though he had no home and I rescued him at about one year old from the street, he is a tremendously sweet and gentle cat. He is so sweet, and wants to be around me and the other kitties, who he is great with. He likes to play with them. He is very relaxed, though will take a little bit of time to trust you as you would imagine. He is starting to sleep on the bed with me, and loves a tummy rub. He can be timid as he builds trust, but never by hissing or scratching. He is truly very gentle and so so sweet. He loves to be petted. He is super low maintenance --he has excellent litter box habits and is not a fussy eater. He is FIV - / FeLV - , is neutered and has all his vaccines. #Brooklyn - Cookie was rescued as a young kitten from Flatbush Brooklyn. She is a little over a year and a sweet, petite and gentle cat who loves to snuggle and get pets. She is looking for a loving home where she can snuggle with someone during the upcoming cold months. Cookie would be great in a home with children and/or a friendly dog or cat.

She has excellent litter box habits and is not a fussy eater. She is FIV/FeLV negative, miicrochipped, spayed and has all had all her vaccines. If you would like to meet her she is at the Brooklyn Cat Cafe (www.catcafebk.com) or contact brooklynbridgeanimals@yahoo.com for more information.

#Brooklyn - Leia was rescued from the streets at 16 weeks old, so she was a late starter and can seem more aloof than other cats, despite being very sweet and loving once she trusts you and especially at meantime! She is a very quiet cat and mostly prefers the company of other cats and to laze around in her favourite sleeping spots. Once rescued it became clear that she was definitely meant to be a house cat as she is not at all mean and would unlikely have made a good outdoors kitty! (Her life would have consisted of churning out endless kittens until her body could take no more.)

She is highly food motivated and enjoys being pet. Speed up the process by offering her treats and meats! Leia is currently residing at the Brooklyn Cat Cafe on Atlantic ave, and has been coming out of her shell gradually, though she has continued being quite lazy during her stay there. She gets along well with other cats, mostly the other lazy ones, but is shy around people. She can be overlooked given the number of lovely outgoing friendly cats most adopters are greeted by, but those who spend a bit of time getting to know her and reach out to her will see that sweet side of her that enjoys a nice head rub. Leia will do wonderfully with a family who appreciates her for who she is and can help her gain more confidence. With the right loving person, she might even become a lapcat someday! (These cats tend to pick favourites when they gel with others!)

Leia is a brown and red Tortoiseshell tabby with a splash of ginger on one of her back legs. She has a cuddly face like a teddybear!

Leia's brother Luke is also located at the Brooklyn Cat Cafe. They have been too busy lazing and interacting with other cats so we have decided that they may be adopted out separately. Leia still requires that she be homes with another young cat or to a home with existing friendly cats. She would likely be afraid of very young children but okay with mature children.

Both cats are FiV negative, spayed/neutered, vaccinated and microchipped.

You can come meet Leia at the Brooklyn Cat Cafe. Please contact amyinzombieland[AT]gmail.com with any queries or submit an application if you think Leia would be a good fit for your family!
